Waterford becomes Ireland’s Christmas capital during Winterval, from late November to December 23rd.

Winterval kicks off on Saturday with Santa arriving in Waterford to help switch on the city’s Christmas lights! Festivities start and the city’s Christmas lights will be switched on with live music at John Roberts Square.

There is a selection of fantastic events to suit the whole family! From Festival favourites such as Winterval On Ice, located on Bolton Street.

Santa’s Grotto is normally located beneath the City Hall, The Mall in the heart of Waterford’s Viking Triangle. Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves will welcome visitors to the enchanting 750-year-old Choristers Hall. Listen to Mrs. Claus read her favourite Christmas stories! Enter Santa’s Medieval Chambers via. City Hall, opposite the House of Waterford Crystal for an incredible, unique experience this Christmas.

Experience the Winterval Express Train, as it journeys through the heart of the city and Winterval along the Mall, going through the Applemarket, and John Roberts Square. Enjoy festive treats, delicious food and handmade crafts at the Winterval market.

The Wizards and Dragons

The Wizards and Dragons, a new exhibit at Winterval celebrates the wonder of dragons and gives visitors of all ages the thrill of seeing them brought to animatronic life. You will discover how wizardry and the black arts influenced these mythical and magical creatures through spells, tales and legends. For thousands of years, one mythical creature has captured the hearts and imaginations of cultures throughout the world! An unforgettable experience for all ages this Christmas. With a mixture of over 60 free and ticketed events every weekend, it’s an ideal festive day out.
